LB Business Districts Awarded $100K In Grants For Visual Improvements

LONG BEACH, CA — The city announced that Business Improvement Districts in Long Beach will receive a total of $100,000 in grant awards to support visual improvements and attract more people to local businesses.

The grant awards will help fund sidewalk activation, special events and clean and safe initiatives under the Visual Improvement Program.

“This is an amazing opportunity to help Business Improvement Districts create an environment that attracts more people into local businesses,” said Mayor Rex Richardson. “Our business corridors can use a little extra love as they continue to recover.”

According to the city, funding will be available as quickly as possible and will be calculated with the same formula used for previous BID Grants, which accounts for the number of businesses served in each district.

Specific districts receiving funding include:

• Belmont Shore PBIA
• Bixby Knolls PBIA
• Downtown Long Beach PBIA and PBID
• Fourth Street PBIA
• Long Beach Tourism BIA-Downtown
• Magnolia Industrial Group PBID
• Midtown PBID
• Uptown PBID
• Zaferia PBIA

City officials said there will be a specific focus on establishing grant awards for local businesses that have been impacted by Long Beach's homelessness crisis.

The $100,000 will be repurposed from Long Beach Recovery Act funds, city officials said. Business Improvement District activities will be tracked and recorded on the Long Beach Recovery Act website.
