LBACC PAC Endorses Robert Luna For Sheriff

The Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce PAC, the political action committee of the Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, today announced the endorsement of Robert Luna for election to Sheriff of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in the 2022 Primary Election on June 7.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is the largest sheriff's department in the world, employing over 10,000 sworn deputies, and over 8,000 civilian staff.

“Robert Luna is perfectly matched for the Sheriff’s position in Los Angeles County, after seven years as Chief leading the county’s second largest police department in Long Beach and 36 years with the city’s law enforcement,” said Jeremy Harris, President & CEO, Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “Former Chief Luna was instrumental in creating community-based policing programs and body-worn cameras, among other initiatives that are important to the business sector and key to a safer community.”

As police chief in Long Beach, Luna directed around 800 sworn officers and 1,200 employees. He is the first Latino chief of police in the city. Luna started as a reserve officer in 1985 and was successively promoted within every rank of the Police Department. He was appointed Chief of Police in 2014 and recently served on the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) executive board, and is active with the organization’s Homeland Security Committee and the Police Executive Leadership Institute (PELI) mentorship program.

Luna is the only candidate in the Sheriff’s race who comes from outside the Sheriff’s Department.

He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) National Executive Institute and National Academy, and Harvard University’s program for senior executives in state and local government, and the University of Southern California’s (USC) Delinquency Control Institute. Luna has a master’s degree in public administration from California State University, Long Beach.

Luna lives in Long Beach with his wife and has 2 adult children.
