LBUSD: Nurse Administrator Earns State Honor

The California School Nurse Organization Southern Section has awarded the Excellence in School Nursing Administrator Award to Lucy Carbajal, a program specialist for Student Health Services in the Long Beach Unified School District.

Carbajal has been a nurse for 22 years and served in the Navy. She has been a program specialist for LBUSD for three years, assisting 45 school nurses and 37 health assistants.

She is described by her colleagues as a supportive and strong leader. She has demonstrated her dedication to her role during the current pandemic, helping to staff vaccination clinics for employees in partnership with Long Beach Health and Human Services, and creating materials to train school nurses, district staff and other departments.

The California School Nurse Organization planned to honor Carbajal virtually during their conference this month, as well as during the National School Nurse conference in Austin, Texas later this year.
