Long Beach Local Finds Grenade-Like Item While Gardening

LONG BEACH, CA – A Long Beach resident found what appeared to be a grenade while gardening on Sunday, according to police. The item was found around 1:50 p.m. in the 800 block of E. 9th Street near St. Mary Medical Center, and police evacuated part of the neighborhood.

After authorities disposed of the item, people were allowed back into their homes, Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt told Press-Telegram, which didn't have any explosive material in it.
