Long Beach Modifying Hours At Its City-Owned Gyms
The four city-owned facilities will still be open 12 hours a week, but the times and days are changing effective March 23.
LONG BEACH, CA — Long Beach is modifying the hours that each of its four city-owned gyms is open to the public each week.
Starting March 23, each gym will still be open 12 hours per week, but those hours will be stretched across five days, rather than four.
The open gym hours are changing from the current schedule of Monday through Thursday, 5 to 8 p.m., to Monday through Thursday, 4 to 6 p.m. and Friday, 4 to 8 p.m.

Coinciding with the modified hours, the city's Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) department is transitioning its year-round adult sports leagues for basketball and volleyball to city-owned gyms, rather than gyms owned and operated by external partners.
As of March 23, the city's adult basketball and volleyball leagues will have scheduled access to city gyms at 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday for their programming.
"As a result, select practices for some of PRM’s youth sports leagues that are currently scheduled inside gyms during these hours will transition to outside, as is standard practice for most Youth Sports Leagues conducted at other park locations," the city explained in a statement.
Participants of PRM’s adult and youth sports leagues who have questions about the transition may contact YouthSports@longbeach.gov.
Information about PRM’s parks, facilities, programs and services is available at LBParks.org.
