Long Beach Residents Awarded in DeVry University's National Competition
Lara Mae Echon and Mary Maxion placed second in fourth annual Senior Project Showdown competition
DeVry University students Lara Mae Echon and Mary Maxion, both Long Beach residents, recently placed second in DeVry University’s Senior Project Showdown, a national competition that recognizes innovative ideas and solutions to real-world challenges.
The business administration students’ project, “Unconventional Deli,” was designed to help a local restaurant increase revenue, gain new clientele and seize market share. The students used market research to develop methods to improve point-of-sale interactions and reporting, increase social media presence and market catering packages to surrounding schools and office buildings.
Echon and Maxion worked alongside two other DeVry University students, Megan Borunda and Heather Smith, to apply skills and expertise from their field of study to solve local business problems.

A Senior Project Showdown judge from Cisco said, “The team gave an excellent overview of their extensive project research and how it shaped their recommendation to increase social media presence and make upgrades at the point of sale.”
