Man Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of Woman In Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA — A 46-year-old Long Beach man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman on Long Beach Boulevard earlier this month, authorities said.

Cedric Frank Barnes was arrested in connection with the Sept. 7 killing of Madison Coldiron, 31, according to the Long Beach Post. Barnes was booked on suspicion of murder and was being held on $2 million bail. Police said the case was being presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for filing consideration.

The shooting occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Sept. 7 in the 1900 block of Long Beach Boulevard. According to the Long Beach Police Department's original homicide announcement, officers were dispatched to the area at about 5:19 a.m. following a report of a shooting and found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers provided medical aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the woman to a hospital, where she later died. Police said at the time that the victim appeared to have been experiencing homelessness. The woman was later identified as Coldiron.

Police told the Long Beach Post that Coldiron was shot during an argument on a sidewalk near Long Beach Boulevard and 19th Street. Detectives do not believe Barnes and Coldiron knew each other before the encounter, according to the Post.

Police have not disclosed what prompted the argument or identified a motive for the shooting. Barnes remained in custody on $2 million bail following his arrest. As of Thursday morning, Patch had not independently confirmed that the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office had filed criminal charges against him.
