Police officials said the victim was beaten by multiple men after a short verbal altercation.
LONG BEACH, CA — A man was beaten and stabbed Friday morning by multiple male suspects near Downtown Long Beach, according to police.
The Long Beach Police Department received reports of a person screaming at about 1:29 a.m. on Feb. 24 near the 700 block of gardenia Avenue. When officers arrived at the area, they found a man with multiple stab wounds on his upper body.
Further investigation led officers to believe the incident was an attempted murder, LBPD said.
"The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was approached by an unknown number of male suspects and following a brief verbal interaction, the suspects battered him and subsequently stabbed him," LBPD officials said in a statement.
According to officers, the suspects ran off in an unknown direction before police arrived. The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening stab wounds police said.
