Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run In Long Beach

A man died in the hospital while being treated for injuries sustained in a hit-and-run in North Long Beach about four days prior.

LONG BEACH, CA — A man died in the hospital while being treated for injuries sustained in a hit-and-run in North Long Beach about four days prior, police officials announced Wednesday morning.

According to the Long Beach Police Department, the collision happened on April 14 around 9:15 p.m. in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Market Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the pedestrian in the center median of Atlantic Avenue.

Paramedics transported the man to a local hospital to treat his injuries, but just days later he was pronounced dead according to LBPD detectives who said they were notified of his passing on Tuesday.

LBPD withheld the man's identity pending notification of his family.

Preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the man was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when the driver struck him, according to detectives. The driver did not remain at the scene following the collision and officers are still searching for them.
