Port Completes $46M Road Improvement Project

LOS ANGELES, CA - Los Angeles port officials Friday announced the completion of a $46 million project that includes improvements to roadways connecting to the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway in San Pedro.

The project also added one lane to the SR-47 (Terminal Island Freeway) connector to the Harbor Freeway as a way to ease congestion and discourage drivers from weaving through slow-moving traffic onto faster traffic coming from Vincent Thomas Bridge from Long Beach.

  • new bike lanes and sidewalks on John S. Gibson Boulevard;
  • The construction of sound walls;
  • the widening of the Channel Street and Pacific Avenue bridges; and
  • railroad realignment.

Grants from Metro paid for about $24.2 million of the project's costs, while the Port of Los Angeles funded the rest.

Construction work is continuing on a project to reconfigure the C Street on- and off-ramps to improve access to Harry Bridges Boulevard, John S. Gibson Boulevard and Figueroa Street in Wilmington, and is expected to be completed by September, port officials said.
