Richardson Maintains Lead Against Price: Long Beach Mayoral Race

As of 4:23 p.m. Thursday, the polls showed Richardson leading with over half of the vote.

LONG BEACH, CA — Rex Richardson maintained his lead against Suzie Price in the race for Long Beach Mayor, according to additional results released by the Los Angeles County Clerk's Office.

Councilwoman Suzie Price and Vice Mayor Rex Richardson ran for Mayor of Long Beach after the seat was vacated by Robert Garcia who is running for Congress in the 42nd District.

Preliminary results from election night showed the race getting tighter with Richardson ahead with 33,109 votes for Mayor and Price with 28,423 votes.

In the first update since early Wednesday morning, the current count as of 4:23 p.m. on Thursday includes 25.8 percent of the county’s votes.

Thursday’s counted ballots were part of a random selection of batches for the one percent manual tally. According to the County Clerk's office, voters should expect to see more updates between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 11. The final results won't be released until December, according to the schedule.

Price currently serves as the District 3 representative for the Long Beach City Council. She earned her Bachelor's degree in political science and her Master's of Public Administration at California State University, Long Beach and her Juris Doctor degree at Santa Clara Law School.

Richardson is the Vice Mayor of Long Beach and currently represents District 9 in the City Council. He received endorsements from multiple city officials like Mayor Robert Garcia and Vice President of Long Beach Unified School District Megan Kerr.
