A chilly night on April 6th, 2021 marked the first Bridge of Honor for Sea Scout Ship Sea Wolf 566 out of the Long Beach Sea Base; Long Beach Council, Neptune District. Our Sea Scouts have been extremely active over the past year, even through a world-wide pandemic Sea Wolf’s crew remained vigilant at the ready to learn and further their knowledge in ranks and nautical skills. Through-out the past year Sea Wolf saw 12 rank advancements, two Long Cruise awards, two Sea Scout Long Camp awards, two Small-Boat Handler awards, one Qualified Seaman Award, five ILSS trained patches, ten Founder patches, ten Plank Owner patches, three USCG Auxiliary ABS certifications, and one Quartermaster.
Sea Wolf has held a voluminous amount of Zoom trainings with special guests Cpt. Chad Graham from The United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; Joe Butcher from the USS Samuel Gompers; David Sweet, Meteorologist with NOAA; Kevin Baldwin, Operations at The Training Resources Maritime Institute; USCG Auxiliarists David Brown and Robert (Wally) Waldron; Arctica Adventurer & Scout Leader Jeff Bozanic; and Capt. James Kipling Louttit (Kip), Executive Director of the Maritime Exchange of Southern California. Along with all the trainings we have had a few adventures as well, Whitewater Rafting on the Colorado River in Moab, Utah; climbing at the OC Ropes Course and Drill and Ceremony training with Post 558 Infantry Explorers.
Our Scouts have worked hard for being the newest Sea Scout Ship in the Long beach Council. Our Ships Crew, Boatswain Spencer Garcia, Boatswains Mate of Administration Degas Peters, Boatswains Mate of Program, Emmanuel Palma, Crew Leader(s) Ailed Flores, Carina Lizarraga and Rebecca Richardson, Yeoman Gabriel Fierro, Storekeeper Carlos Flores, Purser Willem Aponno and Specialist Matthew Richardson, have truly shown what a Scout can do when they put their mind to something. Most of our Scouts are dual members, meaning they belong to a Scouts BSA Troop; Monrovia Troop 66 B&G as well as Troop 371 out of Bellflower.

A special Thank you to our Ships Leaders who have tirelessly worked on the Sea Wolf to get her seaworthy, Mate(s) Michael Maricle and Shawn MacMaster. Your time and efforts have only made this program a better place for our Scouts. Ms. Alexis Jones who joined us earlier this year has been a phenomenal educator, leader, and mentor to our youth. She is a member of the USCG Auxiliary and offers to our youth a vast knowledge base of education.
