First, today's weather:

Nice, with plenty of sunshine. High: 74 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories in Long Beach today:

  1. Stink update: No, there isn't a solution yet for the stench wafting in from the Dominguez Channel. However, the Carson City Council declared the smell a public nuisance. Therefore, the director of the county's Department of Public Works says residents and businesses can apply for temporary relocation and air filtration reimbursements. (LB Post)
  2. Mayor Robert Garcia, tweeting from his personal account, lauded DC Comics for the creation of a bisexual character. If you're not up-to-date on your Superman lore, let's catch you up. Lois Lane and Clark Kent have a child, Jon Kent, who is a Superman just like dear old dad. However, he is coming out in the comic, "giving young LGBTQ+ people a hero of their own." (@RobertGarcia)
  3. The next spectacular event in LB will be the "Cali-Vibes 2022" festival. Lasting three days, it will see performers such as Sublime with Rome, Sean Paul, Soja, Shwayze, Rebelution, and Wu-Tang Clan. The big headliner is a Bob Marley celebration of songs performed by The Marley Brothers. Look for more details as February draws closer. (The HiLo)
  4. During Hispanic Heritage Month, Long Beach is remembering Jenni Rivera, la diva de la banda. This artist had such a tremendous impact on the community and her niche that her family's music was the subject of a course at Cal State Long Beach. "In a male dominated industry, Rivera was bold and broke barriers. She sang banda music, but was also a business woman, philanthropist and role model." (ABC)
  5. The city had two shootings less than two hours apart. The first event happened in the area of 69th Street and Downey Avenue. Cops found a crime scene, but no shooters or victims. The second shooting took place around MLK Park at 1950 Lemon Avenue. LBPD learned about the shooting when an adult male entered a hospital with gunshot wounds. (LBReport)
