Teacher Charged With Sexual Assault Of Minor Misses Court

LONG BEACH, CA – A former Lakewood High School teacher is facing nine felony sex-related counts stemming from an alleged relationship with a female student. However, arraignment was delayed again Monday because she missed a scheduled appearance in a Long Beach courtroom. Mary Jahn, 52, of Lakewood, remains in custody, according to sheriff's jail records, and no further details were immediately available about the reason she did not come to court.

Her arraignment was rescheduled for Tuesday.

Jahn is charged with four counts of sexual penetration by a foreign object, three counts of lewd act upon a child and two counts of oral copulation of a person under 18.

Jahn – who was a teacher at Lakewood High School at the time – allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female student between July 2008 and July 2011, according to Deputy District Attorney Troy Davis. The alleged victim, now an adult, alerted authorities earlier this year about what she said happened, the prosecutor said.

Jahn worked as an English teacher at Lakewood High School from 2006 until May 11, when she was placed on leave at the outset of the investigation, according to a statement released by the Long Beach Unified School District.

"We received notice today that a Lakewood High School teacher, who had already been on leave since last May, has been arrested. This case involves an alleged inappropriate relationship with a former high school student who is now an adult. The alleged relationship occurred more than six years ago, and we are working closely with our law enforcement partners so that they can gather all the facts they need. The safety and well-being of our students is always our primary concern," according to the statement.

Jahn was arrested Wednesday by Long Beach police and is being held on $750,000 bail.

If convicted as charged, she faces up to eight years and four months in state prison and lifetime sex offender registration, according to the District Attorney's Office.
