Update: Power Outages Reduced to 1000 in Long Beach

At least 30,000 customers were affected by the outages caused by a vault explosion.


Update: All but around 400 utility customers had their service restored by 10:30 p.m.

Update: Power has been restored to all but 1,000 customers in Long Beach, according to SCE.

Update: Due to repairs, SCE is estimating that affected customers in Long Beach will likely be without power throughout the evening and into tomorrow.

The City of Long Beach is reminding residents to treat all unlit traffic lights as four-way intersections. Residents are also asked to keep flash lights handy as candles pose a significant risk during a power outage.

A vault explosion in Downtown Long Beach is causing power outages.

Police are asking people to stay clear of the area from Seventh Street to Anaheim and Pine to Locust Avenues.


Southern California Edison crews have shut down three substations to investigated the cause of the power outage. According to SCE, at least 30,000 customers are currently without power.
