For several weeks, LBYMCA has been preparing to safely offer summer day camp and safe fitness facility protocols in light of COVID-19. New procedures have been implemented in accordance with the latest directives from the CDC, Y-USA, and American Camping Association, and staff members have undergone extensive training.

“We are excited to safely bring children back to the Y for learning, enrichment, friendships and fun this summer", said Alfredo Velasco, President and CEO of LBYMCA. “We’re all looking forward to hearing our YMCA branches once again filled with the laughter of children, and the clanging of weights!”

Some of the changes participants can expect include:

  • Extensive Staff Training – LBYMCA staff members are undergoing training in the latest cleaning and disinfection protocols provided by the CDC, as well as in social distancing, stable groups and virus spread elimination. In addition, all Y staff members receive training annually in child abuse, first aid, CPR and workplace safety. Children will also continually be taught lessons covering personal space, hand washing and other best practices to protect their own health and safety.
  • Hand Washing - More frequent hand-washing breaks and enhanced disinfecting procedures are being implemented including the addition of sinks and hand sanitizing stations.
  • Health Screenings - All children, members and staff are screened daily. Anyone with a temperature over 100.4 and/or exhibiting other symptoms of illness will not be permitted to enter the building. Facial coverings are required upon entering, traveling through the facility, and upon exiting.
  • Stable Groups – Day camp groups will be stable without crossover of campers or staff from one group to another in accordance with CDC and ACA guidelines. These stable groups will function autonomously keeping physically distant from all other groups. As an American Camping Association accredited camping program, the Y will continue to maintain a 10:1 ratio at all times
