If the news has you feeling overwhelmed, as it so often does, I have something that might offer a rare kind of relief: a novel that is mesmerizing, timely, and against all odds, hopeful: The Angel Effect, by Bud Spencer. I received an advance copy from my friend in publishing at Rebel Books Press.
Angels have always captivated me, and that's what first pulled me in. But it was the story itself that held me. Spencer doesn't build just one world. He builds many, spanning dramatically different timelines, each with a life of its own.
The characters feel genuinely real: modern soldiers defending Los Angeles alongside other timelines of ancient heroes confronting a nameless army of darkness. Woven through it all is something harder to name. You first read about it, like a hint, and then a glimpse, of a force greater than the brutal evil they face. The tension and mystery were palpable. I felt it on every page.
What I kept turning over in my mind was how such regular people, of every background, most of them particularly not religious, were quietly inspired and guided toward what might be nothing less than saving the world. The answer seems to lie with a mysterious warrior from beyond this world, one who looks and acts unmistakably like an angel.
No spoilers here. I do recommend you grab a copy of this incredible novel.
It's on pre-order now everywhere in bookstores and online platforms like Apple, Amazon, Kindle, etc. And do not forget your local Indie bookstore either.
This is a book that is about to take off like a rocket!
