LA28 Unveils Plans To Highlight LA Fashion, Food, Music And Arts

Officials are working on a program to reduce or eliminate ticket or entrance fees for some of cultural programming during the 2028 Games.

LOS ANGELES, CA — LA28 officials Thursday announced plans to highlight Los Angeles neighborhoods, fashion, film, food, music, performance and visual art as part of programming for its multiyear Cultural Olympiad.

Each host city for the Olympic and Paralympic Games designs a Cultural Olympiad to meld sports and culture. The International Olympic Committee said it will support LA28 in amplifying the reach and maximizing the impact of the initiative.

"We have intentionally built the Cultural Olympiad from the community level up, to ensure that we are reflecting the authentic voices of our region," Nora Halpern, executive director of the LA28 Cultural Olympiad, said in a statement.

"The Cultural Olympiad must be of Los Angeles, not just in Los Angeles," Halpern added. "We want every Angeleno to see themselves in our program."

The initiative is expected to take place in collaboration with civic agencies in the L.A. region.

"The 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games offer an unprecedented opportunity to celebrate our City and region's arts and culture for our local and global communities," said Paul Krekorian, executive director of the Office of Major Events for Los Angeles, in a statement. "The city of Los Angeles has been a committed partner from the start and looks forward to continuing our partnership with LA28 on the Cultural Olympiad and the City's arts and culture program to uplift our city's cultural communities on the global stage."

While more details for the Cultural Olympiad are expected to be shared in the future, the following represent the "first wave" of what's to come:

-- Sixteen official LA28 art posters, eight for the Olympics and another eight for the Paralympic Games, which will be created by local artists selected through a so-called jury-led process;

-- Applications will be open in early 2027 for institutions and community organizations to be recognized during the Cultural Olympiad;

-- A "Sport on the Silver Screen" series will highlight 28 sport films to audiences across the city with free screenings at iconic L.A. locations; and

-- A Cultural Olympic Calendar and Mapping app will be made available in January 2028 as a digital guide to Olympic programming.

LA28 officials also said they are working on an underwriting program with the goal of reducing or eliminating ticket or entrance fees for some of its cultural programming during the 2028 Games.
