Suspect In Terrorizing Beverlywood Home Invasion Robbery Arrested

Police believe the suspect is part of a South American theft group.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Police Thursday released the name of a 22-year-old man described as a South American theft ring burglar who allegedly terrorized a man at his Beverlywood home, prompting the resident to hide in a bathroom.

Kevin Diaz of Los Angeles entered a home in the 1500 block of Rexford Drive, south of Pico Boulevard and east of Beverly Drive, around 11:30 p.m. Monday, the Los Angeles Police Department alleged.

"West Los Angeles Detectives identified the suspect belonging to a South American theft group," according to the LAPD. "Detectives connected the suspect to approximately 25 burglaries throughout the city." Of the 25 burglaries, 14 were in the San Fernando Valley, other locations included West and South Los Angeles.

Regarding the Beverlywood break-in, "The victim was inside his residence when he heard a loud bang on his glass sliding door," according to an LAPD statement. "The victim reviewed his surveillance cameras and observed a male making entry into his residence. In fear for his life, the victim locked himself inside the bathroom and called 911."

The front door was open when officers arrived and spotted the suspect inside, wearing a black hoodie and black pants, police said.

The suspect fled, prompting the police to establish a perimeter. "Officers located the suspect, and a short foot pursuit ensued," according to the LAPD.

The person who was chased down and arrested was identified as Diaz. He was booked at Metropolitan Detention Center on suspicion of first-degree residential burglary, with bail set at $50,000, police said.
