Alta Fire Breaks Out In Antelope Valley

LANCASTER, CA — A brush fire that broke out in the Antelope Valley Thursday afternoon prompted evacuation warnings in the far northern reaches of Los Angeles County.

The fire, dubbed the Alta Fire, broke out at around 1 p.m. in the area of 230th Street West and West Avenue C, a rural area west of Lancaster and just south of the Kern County line, according to authorities.

At the time it was about 30 acres.

By 2 p.m., it had grown to a size of around 350 acres. Fire officials said it had the potential to burn 500 acres within the next hours.

Shelter-in-place orders have been issued for some residents in the area.

Evacuation warnings were issued to residents in an area between roughly 280th Street West and 170th Street West, south of West Avenue A.
