Brush Fire Straddling LA-Kern County Line Burns 2,000 Acres

A stretch of Highway 138 was closed in the area.

FAIRMONT, CA — Crews continued battling a brush fire Saturday that began in Los Angeles County before crossing into Kern County, burning at least 2,000 acres.

All evacuation warnings were lifted for the Macy Fire, which was reported at about 2:45 p.m. Friday near Highway 138 and North 110th Street West in the unincorporated community of Fairmont, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire was initially reported at about 100 acres, grew to about 660 acres by 3:35 p.m. Friday and was upgraded to a third alarm fire. It then grew to 1,100 acres as it moved north toward Kern County.

A stretch of Highway 138 was closed in the area.

The fire's progress was stopped at 7:09 p.m. Friday and containment was at 71% as of midday Saturday, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
