ACTON, CA — Evacuation orders were lifted Sunday for a brush fire that burned about 350 acres in Acton, authorities said.

The fire was 47% contained as of Sunday afternoon and forward progress had been stopped, a department spokesperson told City News Service.

Evacuation orders were issued for four areas Saturday because of immediate threat to life, and evacuation warnings for eight others due to potential threat to life and or property, according to Cal Fire.

A shelter was set up for evacuees at the Antelope Valley YMCA at 43001 10th Street West in Lancaster.

On Sunday afternoon, however, the American Red Cross reported that the evacuation orders were lifted, and the shelter was closing.

U.S. Forest Service air tankers and helicopters assigned to the Angeles National Forest joined in the firefight and Cal Fire aircraft reloaded retardant at Fox Field in Lancaster. There were 177 personnel assigned to the fire from 81 units and with eight aircraft dropping water or fire retardant from helicopters and fixed-wing airplanes, officials said.

No injuries or structure damage was reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The National Weather Service said elevated fire risk will be present in the Antelope Valley all week, with high temperatures, low humidity and occasional gusty winds.
