Despite U.S. Loss, World Cup Fervor Continues With L.A. Area Watch Parties

The U.S. is still headed to the knockout phase thanks to a 2-1 record in the preliminary rounds.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Group play ended in a shocking loss for the United States, but 'futbol' fans in the Los Angeles area Friday can still enjoy various watch parties, including one at Union Station where thousands were on hand to see the boys in red, white and blue lose 3-2 to Turkey.

Despite Thursday's loss at SoFi Stadium - Los Angeles Stadium for marketing purposes - the U.S. side is still headed to the knockout phase thanks to a 2-1 record in the preliminary rounds. They will open single-elimination play against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

The early phase drama continues Friday, with qualification on the line for some teams.

In addition to Friday's free watch party at Union Station in downtown L.A., which begins at noon with Norway versus France, others will take place include: Wilmington Recreation Center, Echo Park and Sheldon-Arleta Park.

The opening game will be followed by matches pitting Senegal and Iraq, Uruguay and Spain, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde, Egypt and Iran, and New Zealand and Belgium.

The Senegal-Iraq match will also be shown at the Taper Auditorium at Central Library.
