LOS ANGELES, CA — A man who fled from a Los Angeles reentry program facility spend a mere day on the lam before he was captured, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced Tuesday.
Jose Barrios had walked away from the facility on Friday and was taken into custody in the Los Angeles Police Department's Olympic Division on Saturday.
Barrios had been in CDCR custody since September 2023 after being convicted of second-degree robbery, with an enhancement for use of a firearm, and sentenced to seven years behind bars.
"He will be rehoused at a CDCR institution, and his case will be referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office for consideration of escape charges and an additional charge for possession of a controlled substance," according to a CDCR statement.
The agency added that since 1997, 99 percent of inmates who escaped from department facilities have been captured.
