CLAREMONT, CA — An infant girl died after a boy threw her to the floor at a home in Claremont, and the youth was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of murder, the Claremont Police Department announced.
Police and paramedics responded to a medical emergency reported around 11:40 on Monday in the 1400 block of Lynoak Drive. Officers determined the infant had been thrown on the floor by a boy at the residence and transported the girl to Pomona Valley Hospital, according to the Claremont Police Department.
Due to the severity of the girl's injuries, she was transferred to Children's Hospital of Orange County where she died, police said.
The boy was arrested and transported to jail. He was booked into Los Padrinos Juvenile Hall on a charge of murder and is scheduled to be arraigned on July 2, police said.
Claremont Police Department Lt. Brian Thompson told The Orange County Register there were adults in the home at the time of the incident and the boy did know the baby, but he was not related to her.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact the Claremont Police Department at 909-399-5411.
