LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced an official partnership with 7-Eleven Wednesday through the nationwide Operation Chill program, an initiative designed to strengthen positive relationships between law enforcement and youth across Los Angeles County.

According to the Sheriff's Information Bureau, deputies will distribute coupons that can be redeemed for a free small Slurpee to youth they observe making positive choices and demonstrating exceptional citizenship through assisting others, engaging in safe behavior and serving as a positive role model in their community.

Approximately 5,000 coupons are expected to be distributed to deputies assigned to LASD patrol stations across the county.

"Operation Chill is about much more than handing out a free Slurpee. It is about building trust, strengthening relationships, and creating positive interactions between our deputies and the young people we serve every day," Sheriff Robert Luna said in a statement.

Luna added that the program offers a small gesture that can leave a lasting impression and that a positive encounter can help build long-lasting trust with law enforcement.
