RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Two officers and at least two other people were taken to a hospital after a police patrol unit and two civilian vehicles were involved in a crash in Riverside County, authorities said Sunday.
Officers from the Menifee Police Department were involved in an on-duty crash at the intersection of Scott and Menifee roads around 6:45 p.m. Saturday, the police department announced.
The officers were responding to an assist-fire call when they entered the intersection and collided with two civilian vehicles, police said.
Cal Fire personnel and paramedics responded and provided medical aid to those involved. All of the occupants, including the officers, were taken to a hospital for evaluation. Authorities did not immediately release the extent of the injuries or the exact number of people involved.
The cause of the crash was not immediately available. The California Highway Patrol assumed the investigation, and the intersection was briefly closed.
