Pedestrian Struck, Killed On 10 Freeway In LA

LOS ANGELES, CA — A pedestrian was struck and killed Monday morning on the Santa Monica Freeway, prompting an hourslong SigAlert and backing up westbound traffic for miles.

The crash was reported at about 3:45 a.m. on the westbound 10 Freeway west of Vermont Avenue, near the 110 Freeway interchange, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

All westbound lanes were initially closed before authorities reopened the far-left lane. The SigAlert, initially expected to remain in place until 6:30 a.m., was later extended as the investigation continued, KTLA reported.

Traffic was at a standstill past the 110 Freeway interchange during the morning commute.

Authorities did not immediately say why the pedestrian was on the freeway or whether the person had exited a disabled vehicle. It was also unclear whether anyone else was injured.

All lanes reopened before 7:30 a.m.
