Extremists' Bomb Threat Shuts Down LA County Hospital

PASADENA, CA — A bomb threat authorities said came from an extremist group known to law enforcement prompted a large emergency response and hours-long search at Huntington Hospital early Friday.

The threat was called in at about 5:50 a.m., prompting Pasadena police, firefighters and bomb-sniffing dogs to respond, city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.

Police secured the hospital while crews searched the property. Authorities completed their sweep around 9 a.m. and gave the all-clear, allowing hospital operations to return to normal, Derderian said.

No injuries were reported.

The hospital remained open to patients and staff during the investigation, though screening measures were put in place while authorities searched the campus, KTLA reported.

Traffic was also temporarily affected by the response. Pasadena police later said California Boulevard between Pasadena Avenue and Fair Oaks Avenue had reopened and no further action was required from the public, according to KTLA.

Authorities did not immediately identify the extremist group believed to be responsible for the threat or release additional details about the nature of the call.

The investigation was ongoing Friday.
