Downey Officers Shoot Homicide Suspect to Death

Downey police officers Saturday fatally shot an allegedly armed man suspected of killing another man and woman.

DOWNEY, CA — Downey police officers Saturday fatally shot an allegedly armed man suspected of killing another man and woman.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at 7:50 a.m. Saturday in the 11800 block of Downey Avenue, at De Palma Street, a couple of blocks west of Lakewood Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Homicide detectives were assisting in the shooting investigation.

Arriving officers found a man with a gunshot wound and later located a woman who was also shot, the LASD stated. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately released.

"While on scene, officers were contacted by an armed male subject and an officer-involved shooting occurred," sheriff's officials said. The suspect was also pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was also not immediately available. It was unclear if a weapon was recovered at the scene.

No officers were injured, sheriff's officials said.
