LOS ANGELES — A customer at the iconic Langer's Delicatessen went the extra mile — or rather the extra 800 miles — to make sure his waitress got her tip.
The business posted on Friday on social media about a man who had stopped in while visiting Los Angeles from El Paso, Texas, and, unsure if he had remembered to tip, had mailed $50 to the restaurant weeks later.
In the letter, shared by Langer's, Roberto José Andrade explained that he came in on May 1, but after leaving, he was only 75 percent sure he had left a tip amid the back-and-forth with friends about the bill.
"My first job was as a bus boy and waiter, and my sister also worked as a waiter for years," Andrade wrote in the letter, dated May 19. "I recognize how important these tips are to workers. That's why I'm sending these $50 just in case I forgot to include the tip."
Andrade described his waitress and where he had been seated, asking the business to make sure she got the money.
"We found her. She got it. And she was floored," Langer's wrote in the social media post.
"Roberto, thank you for going out of your way to do the right thing when nobody would have known otherwise. Your table's always ready here."
