SYLMAR, CA — A Los Angeles Police Department officer was struck and injured by a vehicle while conducting a traffic collision investigation, and the suspect fled the scene before being taken into custody, authorities said Saturday.
Officers assigned to the LAPD's Mission Division responded around 7:45 p.m. Friday to a crash in the 13300 block of Foothill Boulevard.
Police said one of the officers was struck by an uninvolved passing vehicle while he was on foot. The officer sustained multiple injuries and was taken to a hospital where he was being treated and said to be in stable condition. He suffered a broken leg and head injuries, ABC7 reported.
Police said officers found the suspect and vehicle around 8:40 p.m. Friday and the driver was taken into custody. The suspect sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Investigators with the department's Multi-Disciplinary Collision Team arrived at the scene to lead the investigation.
