Six people were in the car when it overturned and struck a power pole early Friday, according to the CHP.

WRIGHTWOOD, CA — Four people were killed and two others were critically injured early Friday when a car carrying six Wrightwood residents veered off State Route 2, overturned and struck a power pole, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The rollover crash occurred at about 1:30 a.m. Friday along the eastern edge of the Angeles National Forest between Big Pines and Wrightwood, near mile marker 81.30, the CHP said.

A preliminary investigation found that a black 2016 Hyundai Veloster was traveling east on State Route 2 when the driver allowed the vehicle to veer right and leave the roadway, according to the CHP.

The car overturned, traveled down an embankment and struck a power pole.

Five of the six occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Four of those people suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

The other two occupants were taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center and admitted in critical condition, according to the CHP.

Investigators believe none of the six occupants were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and that alcohol was likely a contributing factor, the CHP said.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved. Information about the people who died will be released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.

The crash remains under investigation.

Anyone with information was asked to contact CHP Officer F. Melgar at the Antelope Valley Area office at 661-743-6060 during business hours. After hours, callers can contact the Los Angeles Communications Center at 323-259-3200.
