1. Westside Man Deported 4 Times Gets 11 Years In Fentanyl Case: DOJ (patch.com) — Los Angeles residents are learning that a Mar Vista man previously deported four times has been sentenced to more than 11 years in federal prison for large-scale fentanyl dealing and illegal firearms sales. Prosecutors say he sold thousands of fentanyl pills and multiple weapons in Los Angeles, underscoring ongoing concerns about drug and gun trafficking on the Westside.
   

2. Los Ángeles Azules to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations in Los Angeles (nbclosangeles.com) — Los Ángeles Azules will headline two big Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations in Los Angeles, including the city's traditional El Grito at City Hall on Sept. 15. A day earlier, they'll be honored with a plaza ceremony in Panorama City, where fans can see their handprints set in cement at Plaza del Valle.
   

3. HOLA MEXICO FILM FESTIVAL: Coming September 25 to the Regal Cinemas LA Live (hollywoodtimes.net) — A major Mexican film festival is coming to downtown Los Angeles from September 25 to October 3, centered at Regal L.A. Live with opening night at the Montalbán Theatre in Hollywood. Local film lovers can catch 20 contemporary Mexican films, special events, and rooftop parties, with individual tickets and full festival passes available, all Spanish-language films subtitled in English.
   

4. Dozens of dilapidated boats abandoned in Marina del Rey (cbsnews.com) — Abandoned and sinking boats are piling up in Marina del Rey, with Los Angeles County Sheriff's Harbor Operations estimating about 40 vessels stuck in impound because of funding cuts and limited removal contractors. A local nonprofit, Catalina Crew, is raising private money to remove or recycle derelict boats before they become environmental hazards, while deputies say they're working through a slow lien and DMV process.
   

5. Compton man sentenced for assaulting officer at anti-ICE protest (nbclosangeles.com) — A Compton man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for throwing rocks and injuring a federal officer during a 2025 anti-ICE protest in Paramount. Investigators from the FBI's Los Angeles field office tracked him after he fled to Mexico, leading to his negotiated surrender at the San Ysidro Port of Entry.
