LOS ANGELES, CA — A limited-edition Hello Kitty and Friends library card will become available Friday at LA County Library locations as part of the library system's first collaboration with Sanrio.
The card will be available from Friday through Oct. 18 at all LA County Library locations while supplies last, according to library officials. The collaboration will also include Hello Kitty and Friends-themed programs, bookmarks, stickers and other activities.
New library customers can sign up for the limited-edition card at no charge, while existing customers can replace their current card with the Hello Kitty design for a $1 fee. Cards will be distributed on a first-come, first- served basis.
"Sanrio's Hello Kitty and Friends have brought joy to fans around the world by celebrating friendship, kindness, and belonging," LA County Library Director Skye Patrick said. "We are honored that LA County Library is Sanrio's first library partner, bringing together two organizations that uplift curiosity, creativity, and community."
Participating libraries will offer activities for children, teens and adults during the monthlong promotion, including character scavenger hunts, coloring sheets, reading lists and book displays.
Programs will also include friendship-themed stories and art activities for younger children and activities involving friendship bracelets, bookmarks, character-inspired art, origami and embroidery for school-age children and teens.
Adults will be offered character-inspired reading lists and book displays, along with a Hello Kitty and Friends journaling and craft social.
"Storytelling, creativity and bringing people together have always been at the heart of Sanrio, which makes this collaboration with LA County Library such a natural fit," Sanrio Inc. Chief Brand Officer Jill Koch said. "We're excited for Hello Kitty and Friends to inspire fans of all ages to visit their local library, discover something new, and experience the joy of reading and learning together."
Libraries will also distribute limited-edition Hello Kitty and Friends bookmarks and stickers at no charge while supplies last.
LA County Library operates 87 libraries and serves about 3.6 million residents, according to the library system.
