LOS ANGELES, CA — Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a pedestrian on Sherman Way early Friday morning, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The collision occurred around 3:45 a.m. Sept. 18 as the pedestrian was crossing Sherman Way just west of Sherman Circle in Van Nuys, police said.
Investigators said a small, dark-colored SUV traveling eastbound on Sherman Way struck the man. A witness who was also driving on Sherman Way saw the collision, pulled over and called 911.
The SUV driver continued from the scene without stopping to identify themselves or render aid, police said.
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the pedestrian to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. The man, described by police as a Hispanic man in his 30s, was later pronounced dead.
Police did not release his name.
A reward of up to $50,000 is available through the city's Hit-and-Run Reward Program for information leading to the identification, apprehension and conviction of the driver, or a resolution through a civil compromise.
