LOS ANGELES, CA — Actress Selma Blair has been issued a federal summons accusing her of assaulting two flight attendants aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York on Sunday.

Blair, 54, was taken into custody shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday when the plane arrived at a gate at John F. Kennedy International Airport, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

The FBI issued Blair a violation notice claiming assault within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the U.S., a federal law enforcement official told the Associated Press. The case will be handled in federal court in Brooklyn, but no appearance date has been set.

TMZ reported that Blair punched one flight attendant and bit another while the plane was in the air, citing law enforcement sources.

According to dispatch audio obtained by TMZ, medical personnel were requested at the gate at JFK for reported injuries including a bloody nose and bite marks. Blair was also reportedly restrained aboard the aircraft.

The Port Authority confirmed that two flight attendants reported injuries. Blair and one of the flight attendants were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

TMZ also reported, citing unidentified law enforcement sources, that Blair kicked a Port Authority police officer in the head while being transported to a hospital and assaulted a nurse after arriving.

The outlet reported that Blair faces two state assault counts stemming from those alleged incidents.

A representative for Blair told the New York Times that the actor's behavior stemmed from a medical issue.

Blair "experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct," the representative said. "Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition."

The representative did not elaborate on the nature of the medical emergency.

Delta said in a statement that it "has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first."

The FBI confirmed that it was investigating a possible assault aboard the flight but declined to discuss the ongoing investigation.

Blair's service dog, Scout, was also aboard the flight but was unharmed and picked up at JFK Airport by the actress's attorney, TMZ reported.

Blair got Scout in 2021, three years after revealing her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, according to TMZ.

Blair is best known for her roles in "Cruel Intentions," "Legally Blonde" and "Hellboy."

In 2016, Blair was removed from a flight from Cancun to Los Angeles following a disruptive incident. She later apologized, saying she had mixed alcohol with medication, causing her to black out and behave in ways she regretted.

Material from the Associated Press was used in this report.
