LOS ANGELES, CA — In a unanimous vote, the Los Angeles City Council Wednesday approved the transfer of $5 million to support families and businesses impacted by the June warehouse fire in Boyle Heights.
An additional $5.5 million in Measure A funding will come in the near future, according to Councilwoman Ysabel Jurado, who represents downtown communities and Boyle Heights.
Jurado's office said the $5 million, which comes from the unappropriated balance of the LA Sanitation and Community Investment Department, will be used in the following ways:
The Community Investment Department will report on details of a proposed program to reach affected households and encourage them to apply for financial support.
"Since June 17, Boyle Heights families and businesses have continue to bear the consequences of the Lineage warehouse fire with their health, livelihoods, and peace of mind. The fire may be out, the debris may be cleared, but as long as our communities continue to weather the consequences, the emergency is still ongoing, and it won't end until the city can fulfill the long-term commitment we made with them to set a new bar for the level of care that the Eastside deserves," Jurado said.
Councilwoman Traci Park, who represents Pacific Palisades, which was devastated by the January 2025 Palisades Fire, commended Jurado.
"These disasters are not unique between (Districts) 11 or 14. They can happen anywhere, and when they do, we have got to be able to deliver resources to help the victims," Park said.
Jurado's office said the second phase of Measure A funding will make available $9,000 stipends for affected Boyle Heights households in ZIP codes 90033, 90032 and 90063. City staff will notify council once the $5.5 million is acquired and detail how it will be disbursed.
