LOS ANGELES, CA — Run-DMC rapper Darryl "DMC" McDaniels suffered a minor injury Friday morning when an SUV he was riding in collided with a garbage truck on the 105 Freeway near South Los Angeles, according to reports.
The crash occurred shortly before 11:45 a.m. on the eastbound 105 Freeway near the 110 Freeway interchange, NBC Los Angeles reported, citing the California Highway Patrol.
Responding officers found McDaniels complaining of minor pain, according to the station. A representative for the rapper said other passengers in the SUV were "OK," according to the station.
McDaniels was a passenger in the SUV and was not driving when it collided with a garbage truck in the West Athens area, TMZ reported.
Video from the scene showed extensive damage to the passenger side of the SUV, which had come to rest facing against traffic, according to TMZ.
The SUV was later towed from the freeway, and the crash scene was cleared, TMZ reported, citing CHP officials.
The cause of the collision was not immediately clear.
McDaniels is a founding member of the pioneering hip-hop group Run-DMC, which helped bring rap music into the mainstream in the 1980s.
