Rye 51 Brings Its Dallas Tailoring Pedigree to Westlake Village

Southern California's well-dressed men have a new address. Rye 51, the Dallas menswear brand known for pairing sophisticated tailoring with a relaxed shopping experience, opened its first California boutique at The Shoppes at Westlake Village. The 2,475-square-foot store at 30770 Russell Ranch Road is the brand's 11th location and carries the full Rye 51 range, from custom suiting and shirting to tailored clothing and ready-to-wear.

Rye 51 is the work of Raja Ratan, who started the brand in 2003 as a custom clothing boutique. Over the past two decades it has grown into a full-fledged menswear destination with stores across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Arizona and Georgia. Rye 51 draws on more than 50 years of textile expertise and its small-batch collections and made-to-measure pieces are designed around quality fabrics, comfort and versatility.

What sets the shopping experience apart is the atmosphere. Every Rye 51 store pairs knowledgeable clothiers with a relaxed store experience anchored by the brand's signature complimentary bar.

The Westlake Village space was long home to Carriere Menswear, Bob Carriere's beloved local shop, and the connection between the two businesses runs deep. Carriere was one of Rye 51's early stockists, and the professional relationship between Carriere and Ratan grew over the years.

"When I learned that Bob Carriere was retiring, I immediately reached out to chat with him about his shop and the reasons for closing," Ratan says. "We became friends, and as it turned out, he was sincerely just retiring."

Perhaps the best news for longtime Carriere customers is that familiar faces remain. "One of the more rewarding parts of it all is we were able to keep the team that Bob has employed for a decade," Ratan says. The space has been renovated to reflect Rye 51's aesthetic while keeping the feel that loyal clients will recognize.

"After several visits to the market, I became increasingly confident that the demographic was right for our product and that the area was underserved when it came to modern men's tailored clothing," said Ratan.
