East End Studios - Mission Campus

This fall, step inside The Light We Leave Behind, a limited-run, immersive live music experience that transforms East End Studios in LA’s Arts District into a surreal world of snow, water, light, rain and live music.&nbsp;

Rather than a traditional concert, the approximately two-hour, phone-free experience takes guests through a sequence of environments where music, architecture, hospitality and production become part of the performance itself. Guests journey through a snow-covered lounge featuring a 30-foot tree and complimentary tea before entering a water-filled performance space illuminated by approximately 70 lights synchronized directly to the music. As artist and composer Emmit Fenn performs alongside a small ensemble, the environment evolves around the audience, culminating in rainfall inside the room.

The experience concludes in a gallery featuring drawings, imagery, objects and garments that offer a closer look at the creative process behind the project.The Light We Leave Behind will run Thursday to Sunday evenings with three performances nightly from September 17th through October 11th.

LAGRH's Stand Up For Our Rights…..A Night of Comedy Sells Out Ahead of September Fundraiser, Silent Auction and Volunteer Opportunities Still Open

LOS ANGELES, [August 10th, 2026] — LAGRH announced that its 3rd annual Gala, LAGRH's Stand Up For Our Rights…..A Night of Comedy, the organization's largest fundraiser of the year, has officially sold out, with tickets claimed almost 3 months ahead of the event.&nbsp;

Though the event has reached capacity, LAGRH is inviting the community to stay involved in three ways:&nbsp;

- Join the waitlist. Interested guests can join a waitlist and will be notified immediately if a seat becomes available.&nbsp;
- Give directly. Donations are open year-round and go directly toward providing financial and logistical support to vetted organizations that promote access to reproductive health and justice services.&nbsp;
- Volunteer for the night. LAGRH is seeking volunteers to help run this year’s event. Volunteers may have the opportunity to enjoy part of the show from the mezzanine, though meals are not provided for volunteer roles.


The event takes place on September 18th, 6pm at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles, and features a live comedy showcase from professional comedians (Rita Rudner, Jason Alexander, Mo Collins, John Fugelsang, Dana Goldberg, Carol Leifer, and Kira Soltanovich, alongside musical entertainment from Laurence Juber, and announcer Fritz Coleman), a sit-down dinner, a program highlighting LAGRH’s work supporting reproductive health, and live and silent auctions.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;

The program will also feature a special tribute to their inaugural honoree, attorney Gloria Allred, recognizing an extraordinary legacy rooted in courage, conviction, and unwavering dedication to equality and justice.


On September 11, 2026, one week before the event, LAGRH will open bidding for its&nbsp; silent auction online, featuring travel packages, experiences, local business donations, and more.&nbsp; Bidding will close at 7:30 PM the night of the event on September 18th, 2026.&nbsp;

All proceeds from the Guild’s Gala, Stand Up For Our Rights…..A Night of Comedy fundraiser support five carefully vetted organizations that provide essential reproductive health services to those in need across Los Angeles and coast to coast – Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, Power to Decide, Women’s Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRAAP), The Brigid Alliance, and UCLA Center on Reproductive Health, Law &amp; Policy. These services include education; training future leaders in reproductive law and policy; family planning; abortion care; and financial and travel assistance to ensure equitable access to reproductive healthcare.

In a small, boring town, best friends Jim and Will eagerly await the excitement of the yearly carnival. But after a different festival, helmed by the sinister Mr. Dark, unexpectedly sets up overnight, the town adults begin to fall under his spell, and the funfair reveals itself as a carnival of terror. Disney funded the project, based on Ray Bradbury’s short story “Black Ferris,” in hopes of breaking free from its stereotype of animated family films; ultimately, there were extensive edits and reshoots to create a more family-friendly film without losing too many of the thrills.

Wayne Unten Jr. is a character animator at Walt Disney Animation Studios, where for more than 20 years he’s worked on films such as Wreck-It Ralph (2012), Meet the Robinsons (2007), Bolt (2008), Tangled (2010), Raya and the Last... Dragon (2021), and Moana (2016).
Unten Jr. has mentored through various organizations such as Academy Gold and taught at Cal Arts. He also enjoys sharing his own personal animation via social media accounts and his and website, animatingforfun.com. Unten Jr. studied animation at California State University Fullerton, where he met his wife, a children’s book illustrator. They live in Los Angeles with their two children.

This year's gala will honor Gloria Allred and feature a live comedy showcase of professional comedians: Rita Rudner, Jason Alexander, Mo Collins, John Fugelsang, Dana Goldberg, Carol Leifer, and Kira Soltanovich, alongside musical entertainment from Laurence Juber, and announcer Fritz Coleman.

Funds raised through the gala and auction will support five thoroughly vetted organizations: Planned Parenthood Los Angeles, Power to Decide, the Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Project (WRAAP), The Brigid Alliance, and the UCLA Center on Reproductive Health, Law &amp; Policy.

These organizations provide and support abortion care, family planning, financial assistance, education, research, policy and training for future leaders in reproductive law and policy.

“The Trump administration is going to eliminate Medicaid (MediCal) January 1, 2027, for people who desperately need healthcare. This will disproportionately affect poor women of color who rely on this for all their healthcare, but particularly reproductive healthcare (pregnancy, birth control, cervical and breast cancer screening). Shameful!!!” said Kim Bader, M.D. FACOG, Associate Professor Emeritus, Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, KSOM/LAC/USC.

The need for this work extends far beyond California. Four years after the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision overturned the federal constitutional right to abortion, patients in many parts of the country continue to face significant barriers to reproductive healthcare. At the same time, organizations providing care and practical support are navigating an increasingly challenging funding and legal environment. California has continued to invest in reproductive healthcare access, including funding for clinics and infrastructure, but the need for support remains significant.

The Roots and Wings Project presents the world premiere of “Realm of the River,” a new play written and directed by founder and artistic director Jesse Bliss, running Friday, September 18 through Sunday, September 27, 2026, at The Rosenthal Theater at Inner-City Arts.&nbsp;
Close friends enjoy a magic night out. Fun and freedom suddenly take a dark turn when an unforeseen and insurmountable circumstance invokes a mystic force, bringing everyone face to face with the true work of healing.
Water runs through the story as a source of danger and restoration, carrying memory and transformation with it. Bliss’s writing creates an emotional and mystical landscape that is further brought to life through projections, music, lighting, and atmospheric stage design, transforming the venue into an immersive theatrical world.
Moving between the charged environments of a nightclub and a sacred river, “Realm of the River” explores female friendship, collective healing, women’s freedom, joy, self-determination, romantic love, and our relationship to the divine. The premiere follows The Roots and Wings Project’s recent sold-out site-specific Highland Park theatrical tour, “Luminous Streets,” and continues the company’s exploration of ways theater can move beyond a single stage or audience. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm, with Sunday matinees at 2:00pm. Opening night begins at 7:00pm with doors and a special pre-show vinyl DJ set by Sherry Younge and Patchouli Nomad of The Artform Studio DJ Collective, followed at 8:00pm by the World premiere performance of “Realm of the River” and an opening night reception. Los Angeles author and climate activist Nicole Levin celebrates the release of “Diary of a Mad Girl; Me Vs. The Oil Industry Vs. My Nonprofit Job”—an illustrated literary comedy exploring climate anxiety, burnout culture, millennial disillusionment, and the absurdity of surviving late-stage capitalism—with a launch party and show at Scribble (5541 York Blvd, Los Angeles, California 90042) on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 7:30pm.
The launch party will be an immersive evening of performance, art, community, and live music by Pacing and Levin’s new band, West Coast Fruits—all inspired by the book’s themes of resistance, intimacy, and survival in contemporary Los Angeles. Her writing has appeared in “The New Yorker” and “The Harvard Crimson,” and she has written for “The Harvard Lampoon” as well as the television series “Lethal Weapon.” Levin previously worked at the Sierra Club, where she helped lead campaigns to phase out urban oil drilling in Los Angeles. Most recently, she has devoted her time to completing an all-white 1,000-piece puzzle. She lives in Southern California with the love of her life, Nina.
