Our May 30 Calm Mornings program features a 10am workshop inspired by the beautifully hand-painted backgrounds of Studio Ghibli films such as The Boy and the Heron. Families can paint their own watercolor background scenes in our Shirley Temple Education Studio. ASL interpretation will be provided.
9–10am | Early gallery access
Explore the galleries in our new exhibition, Studio Ghibli’s PONYO, on Level 2. Sound and lighting adjustments will provide a more sensory-friendly experience.
10am–1pm | Family workshop
Visit the Shirley Temple Education Studio on the museum’s Lower Level for a workshop inspired by Studio Ghibli’s PONYO and today’s accessible screening of The Boy and the Heron. Inspired by the beautifully hand-painted... backgrounds of Studio Ghibli films, Families can find inspiration from the the beautifully hand-painted backgrounds of Studio Ghibli films and craft their own scenic backgrounds using watercolor paint.
In addition to the Calm Mornings program, we encourage visitors to attend our accessible, open-caption screening of The Boy and the Heron (2023) at 11am in the Ted Mann Theater. The screening is part of our weekly Family Matinees series. A separate admission ticket is required.
The Shirley Temple Education Studio will remain open during the screening as a space for relaxation and artmaking until 1pm.
Calm Mornings are free with general admission. Museum admission for youths 17 and under is always free.
