In person: author and filmmaker Mark A. Fortin; actor Jack Huston; author, filmmaker, and actor Joshua John Miller; and journalist Nancy Jo Sales
A seedy group of criminals come together to execute a jewel heist before the corrupted characters inevitably turn on one another. Writer-director John Huston’s revered crime picture injects a jolt of modernity into the classic caper film with its punchy dialogue and the visual language of 1940s Italian neorealism. Marilyn Monroe co-stars as Angela Phinlay, the young girlfriend of down-on-his-luck lawyer and fixer Alonzo Emmerich (Louis Calhern), in what would be her first big break. The Asphalt Jungle was nominated for four Oscars, including one for Huston’s directing.
In a separately ticketed event before the screening, author Joshua John Miller signs copies of his new book, The Marilyn Monroe Century, at the Academy Museum Store.
