In person: actors Rosanna Arquette and Vincent Spano, and Academy Governor Dana Stevens
The third feature from writer-director John Sayles—and his first produced by a major studio—is a refreshingly uncliched youthful romance set in the late 1960s. Roseanna Arquette is Jill Rosen, a high-school honor student in Trenton, New Jersey, who finds her life unexpectedly intertwined with that of a handsome transfer student named Albert “Sheik” Capadilupo (Vincent Spano). Working from an idea by the film’s producer, Amy Robinson, the Schenectady-born Sayles—who was himself a high-school student in the late sixties—gives the story an authentic sense of time and place typical of his decades of character-dominated filmmaking.
Academy Museum film programming generously funded by the Richard Roth Foundation.
