In celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the history-making civil rights law introduced in July 1990, the Academy Museum presents a day of short films, tours, and a live performance, all to bring awareness to disability, representation, and accessibility in Film.
The program is free with your general admission ticket. Access to the shorts screening, tours, and performance is included. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation will be available throughout the day.

- Sound and lighting adjustments provide a more sensory-friendly experience. Separate ticket required.
10am–1pm | Calm Mornings program | Family workshop | LL1, Shirley Temple Education Studio
- In addition to the Calm Mornings program, we encourage visitors to attend our Accessible Screening, part of the weekly Family Matinees series, at 11am. A separate admission ticket is required. The Shirley Temple Education Studio will remain open during the screening as a space for relaxation and artmaking until 1pm.
10am-5pm | Disabilities, Representation, and Film Sensory Session |... LL1, TMT Lobby
- Explore moviemaking at the Academy Museum through a drop-in, sensory-friendly experience. Examine movie props and other objects through touch as well as a speaker that allows visitors to feel mechanical vibrations from sound.
11am | Short films by neurodivergent filmmakers | Accessible screening | David Geffen Theater
Three short films by neurodivergent filmmakers from the Easterseals Disability Film Challenge and Marvels of Media. Screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. A sensory-friendly screening with open captions, dimmed lights, and lower volume for neurodivergent viewers. Free with general admission.

- A museum educator and ASL interpreter lead a tour of our Studio Ghibli’s PONYO exhibition. Free with general admission.
12:30pm | Jaws: The Tour (En Español) - Tiburón: la recorrido | L4, Marilyn and Jeffrey Katzenberg Gallery
- Museum educators offer a 30-minute guided bilingual tour of Jaws: The Exhibition. Free with general admission.
1pm | Live performance | Jazz Hands for Autism | L1, Sidney Poitier Grand Lobby
- Jazz Hands For Autism joins us for a live performance. JHFA provides music education, performance, and employment opportunities for musicians on the autism spectrum. It has secured more than 200 job placements and engaged more than 15,000 people through live, virtual, and hybrid performances. Most recently, a JHFA concert featured the music of Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire, featuring an appearance by Bailey himself. General admission ticket not required.
