Diane Lane received an Oscar nomination for her remarkable portrayal of Connie Sumner, who lives an admirable life in an upper-class neighborhood of upstate New York with loving husband Edward and 8-year-old son Charlie. In a gush of wind, an unpredictable encounter occurs between Connie and an attractive man in the street of New York City, followed by the irreversible measures of an illicit affair. Adrian Lyne candidly and without judgment surveys on lust, passion, jealousy, and guilt, unearthing a dark, dense pool of human emotion and the arbitrariness of its motivation.
