World Premiere of Ritchie Forever Headlines Grand Performances’ 40th Anniversary Season

Grand Performances, downtown Los Angeles’ longest-running presenter of free outdoor concerts presents its highly anticipated world premiere of “Ritchie Forever: An Ode to an American Dreamer” during its 40th season in collaboration with East LA’s Las Cafeteras on Saturday, August 22nd at 6:00pm featuring a one-night-only, multidisciplinary celebration honoring what would have been Ritchie Valens’ 85th birthday.
The landmark production brings together live music, dancing, narration and archival visuals to trace the journey of the teenage trailblazer from Pacoima whose groundbreaking bicultural voice helped reshape American popular music.
Featuring an all-star, intergenerational lineup representing Southern California’s vibrant soul, rock and roll and independent music communities. Featured performers include Shannon Shaw of Shannon & the Clams; Joey Quiñones of Thee Sinseers; Bryan Ponce of The Altons; Irene Diaz; Denise Carlos and Hector Flores of Las Cafeteras; Angie Monroy of The McCharmlys; and Jose Varela of Cutty Flam. Additional surprises throughout the evening.
The production was developed in close collaboration with members of the Valens family and the Ritchie Valens Foundation. Members of the Valens family will attend the world premiere and share personal stories and reflections from the stage.
Grand Performances programs are all-ages, outdoors and always free at California Plaza in the heart of Historic Downtown LA.
