Our next Calm Mornings program, for members of the neurodivergent community and their families, is September 26, from 9am to 1pm, including early gallery access at 9am and a 10am family workshop. ASL interpretation is included.
9–10am | Early gallery access
Explore the galleries in Studio Ghibli’s PONYO, the Level 2 exhibition that dives deep into the magical worlds and hand-drawn animation of the beloved 2008 film. Sound and lighting adjustments provide a more sensory-friendly experience.
10am–1pm | Family workshop
Visit the Shirley Temple Education Studio on the Lower Level for a movie-poster-making workshop inspired by this season's Family Matinees and today’s delightfully wacky, accessible screening of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein.
Inspired by this season's Family... Matinees series, which is all about kid-friendly frightfests such as Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and The Monster Squad, it's time to get creative with your own ideas for a fun and frightful film poster. Learn about what goes into designing an unforgettable one, and then create your own for the film you'd love to make. We will have poster paper, stencils, paper shapes, and coloring materials to help execute your marketing masterpiece.
In addition to the Calm Mornings program, we encourage visitors to enjoy our accessible, open-caption screening of Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) at 11am in the Ted Mann Theater. A separate ticket is required.
The Shirley Temple Education Studio will remain open during the screening as a space for relaxation and artmaking until 1pm.
Calm Mornings are free with the purchase of general admission. Museum admission for youths 17 and under is always free.
