• Winemaking pioneer Fred Brander turns sauvignon blanc into scholarships (santamariatimes.com) — A longtime Los Olivos vintner, Fred Brander, is being honored for turning his pioneering sauvignon blanc work and quiet philanthropy into scholarships and hands-on training for Allan Hancock College students. His Los Olivos vineyard launched in 1975 and now supports viticulture education, single-parent scholarships, and a bonded teaching winery. Residents can join the Hancock Honors celebration recognizing him on Sept. 12 in Santa Maria.
