Alleged DUI Driver Causes Major Damage To Garden Grove Street

A late night driver with two passengers smashes into a light pole, street light and bus bench in Garden Grove. Then, his vehicle exploded.

GARDEN GROVE, CA — Early Tuesday morning, neighborhoods were awoken in Garden Grove when a vehicle crashed into a light pole, street light and bus stop bench, then exploded in flames. Police and emergency vehicles responded to the intersection at Euclid and Main Streets to find the fully engulfed truck, Sgt. J. Delgado of the Garden Grove Police Department said.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving. Investigators determined the motorist was traveling south on Euclid Street and lost control of the vehicle at Main Street.

"The driver and two men in the vehicle were able to help each other out of the vehicle and each was treated at the scene by Garden Grove Fire Department paramedics," Delgado said. "One of the passengers sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital."

The driver made statements at the scene regarding his impairment while driving and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, he said. His name was not released.
